What is Internal Family Systems Therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy is a powerful and transformative, evidence-based model of psychotherapy. It believes that the mind is naturally multiple and that is a good thing. The premise of IFS is that we are inherently whole, and our core “Self” knows how to heal from the inside out. Often, our challenges originate where there are unresolved conflicts between different parts of self and one’s core “Self” known as the compassionate core of every human being. These wounded parts can show up through perfectionism, self-sabotage, and strong emotions such as anger and shame. The parts function to control or protect the person from the pain of these wounded parts. You will be invited to recognize and identify these parts and acknowledge your feelings about these internalized and suppressed emotions. Through giving your parts voice, you will learn ways to let go of these feelings and in doing so, shift some of the blocks that have been in your way of healing.
