What is Dialectical Behavior Therapy?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is commonly used to treat suicidal behaviors, borderline personality disorder and other severe and complex mental health disorders including: emotion dysregulation, post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders, substance dependence, depression and anxiety-related issues. DBT is used in individual therapy as an approach to support individuals in enhancing emotion regulation. This is achieved through learning and practicing coping skills in order to expand your options for effectively addressing distress and overwhelm stemming from past trauma or present stressors.
